Skool Boyz merupakan kelanjutan dari group Flavor dengan anggota yang sama yaitu Stan Sheppard (Vokal utama), Chauncey Matthews (vokal dan keyboard), dan Fred Brown (vokal dan gitar). Group ini kemudian mengikutsertakan William “Billy” Sheppard yang adalah adik kandung Stan yang pernah terlibat dengan (bukan anggota) boyband New Kids On The Block. Stan dan Billy adalah putra legenda R&B Bill “Bunky” Sheppard.

“You Are The Best Thing In My Life” merupakan salah satu track ballad dari album yang berjudul sama “Skool Boyz” yang dirilis pada tahun 1984 di bawah label Columbia Records. Setelah mereka merilis album yang berjudul “This Is the Real Thing” pada tahun 1985, group ini bubar karena album tersebut tidak bernasib lebih baik dari debut album self-title mereka. Masing-masing member kemudian berjalan sendiri-sendiri, gitaris Billy Sheppard bergabung dengan group By All Means, sebuah trio dari Los Angeles dan sempat merekam album bersama label 4th & Broadway Records pada tahun 1988. Kakaknya, Stan, membentuk group baru dan juga punya album rekaman. Stan juga dikenal sebagai produser dan penulis lagu untuk beberapa artis seperti, Gerald Alston, the Temptations, the Pointer Sisters, Dazzie Dee, Hinton Troy, dan Gene Rice, yang merupakan kerabat lama Stan, si kembar Rice. Matthews dan Brown bekerja di balik layar sebagai pemandu dan backing vokalists setelah perpisahan itu.
